Segments
These are the building blocks for the Segmented Drum shell.
-
Segment Shell Construction
Here we have a finished Segment Shell. The rounding procedures used in this step ensures the surfaces of the drum are perfectly true and concetric. This process is followed by some light sanding of the inner and outer extremities.

Bearing Edges
This photo shows the freshly cut 45 degree Bearing Edges. Upon assembly a roundover will be introduced along the outer perimeters to allow even distribution of stress applied by the head.
-
MockUp
Here we have the completed drum skeleton. A dry fit of hardware with the shell is a nice pat on that back at this stage in the process. Next we will introduce contours and shaping to the hoops followed by various relief machining around the shell.

Here we have 14" x 6.5" x 1.5" Maple Segment Snare complete with Oak Counter Hoops.

14" x 6.5" x 1.5" Side View
The thickness of this shell combined with 40 snare wires makes this drum very sensitive with a pronounced and projected, crisp attack.
